No Comments on Sunday

This year my winter is different. Snow changed to rains and winds. Mostly, there are about 300 sunny days a year in Izmir. But the second month is still raining and it will continue for one more. Mostly, here is not so much rain. Rain obviously changes the mood of the people. If there is a full moon in the rainy week, you will not touch the cats in the streets, but also you will see the strange people who just dance, whisper or curse people. We all are affected by air and is nothing what we can do about it. Maybe, even sometimes we hoping, that will be rain on Sunday, and it will give a feeling of cosiness and nostalgia. Maybe, on Sunday we will hear that, the weather is not the most important thing, but mainly important is, how much light we carry in our hearts.

On Sundays we can see more families. The behaviour of adults depends on national values, cultural and social attitudes, but children acts are almost the same in the all world. They are naughty, want to touch everything, are crazy in the stores, always ask for sweets, don’t listen and laugh joyfully. Where it all disappear? When the kids get into the cage of society and change? When the kid who is deep inside us is, disappear? Children know, how to best forgive and release, not to keep anger and jealousy, to love sincerely and to see THE details. They see the world “directly”, without the filters of society. Later, THE details become invisible, no longer relevant and faded.

Turkish children learn, what it means to be real citizens, from young ages. The some time ago, every morning, children in primary schools, had to say “Andimiz”. The nation patriotism always make different ambiguous by feelings and opinions. Children must be educating to be civic-minded from the early age. On the other hand, where is the free choice and perception about true love for homeland? How much is it same like the compulsory military service, which is also obligatory in Turkey. What are the acceptable ways to grow ours national spirit? National identity and proof of citizenship, is not just only human rights knowledge, responsible behaviour in elections, sense of security and independence. This is – without shame sing a hymn, freedom of national culture, ours family roots realization and recognition. We can be good citizens living not just only in our countries and without shaming to admit the country’s values and traditions, believing in a brighter tomorrow. I do not feel ashamed to wear my country’s flag, I miss chant an anthem in the crowd, I never lie when ask me where I come from and I will never renege my nationality.

Every Sunday, I try to imagine the sounds of the rain, remember what I believed and wanted the most in my childhood. Warm and good memories will make us less adults and remind us, why it is so good to coming home, where the rain became a friend, where it is easier to be in silent, when listening the native language. We all need to have a place where nostalgia surrounds us as our mother’s hands. Let us openly assess, how much we are patriotic and what we mean to be patriotic. On Sundays we can meet in the prayer house to find support not only in faith, but in the eyes of friends and relatives. Let us be the greatest support for each other, when we no longer know how to believe, when the rain is not just a weather forecast.
