How to land when you already landed

Hola kankitas!

Today has been a very productive one! I woke up super early to join a press conference and the after meeting organized by my hosting association Sagkal. I was helping with the preparations: fulfilling the folders with the right informative documents, pens here pens there, bottles of water for everyone, business cards of Sagkal’s Boarding Members ready to be given, etc.

When people and press where arriving I started to record videos and taking pictures. It took long time for the people to sit (as there was some food to grab). Cagri, my new colleague said to me “It is Izmir” when I complained about people arriving late. Apparently, we have something else in common Turkish and Spanish citizens.

Some of our guests were representatives of cancer associations in different regions of the country as well as some presidents of the several Rotary Clubs located in the neighbourhoods of Izmir. All united for the same reason: getting to know the new European project of Sagkal.

It was a long morning but I felt myself very fulfilled even if my help to this social event was not as huge as one can think to feel as I do right now.

In the conference I met with Elif, a girl of my age who also came to help and whose accent in English was more than amazing. I guess we will probably be good friends in the future as we are already planning to go out together someday.

Finally, after four months, I got a mentor in my hosting association. Miss Zeliha (Celia, pa’ los coleguis españoles) will be from now on the responsible of me. She is such a beautiful and elegant lady with a lot of knowledge from who I would try to learn as much as possible. Together with her, Cagri, our project assistant will be dealing with my presence during the next months. I still don’t know very well in which will consist my work but I am very sure it will be a very useful time and I am really looking forward to spend more time with them. Both of them speak English, so I am very happy with this new situation of being able to communicate properly with someone after all these months suffering with Turkish language and using Google as my best ally.

I really feel “I landed in my project” today and things don’t have any other way than going better.

About Macarena Gonzalez Lopez

Hola, holita kankas of the world! This is Maka, best known among my friends as “La muchacha turca” because of my love for this country, where now I have the pleasure to live in. I am 25 years old and I come from a super touristic town in amazing Málaga, called Fuengirola. Even if I am Spanish, people agree I perfectly look Turkish and THIS MAKES ME ÇOK ÇOK ÇOK MUTLU. I studied Translation and Interpreting (EN-ES-FR) at Universidad de Málaga and some classical music in the conservatory of my town. Definitely, not a science girl at all. I hate cucumber and I love Eurovision Song Contest.
